AAU COACHING STAFF

HEAD COACH JULIUS PAGE:
Julius was a four year starter at the University of Pittsburgh, scoring over 1500 points and making Pitt All Centennial Team.  He was the 2003 Big East Championship M.V.P. and four time Pittsburgh Panther Defensive Player of the Year.  He played professionally overseas in Russia, Germany, Israel and Dominican Republic and also learned and played along side Michael Jordan.  Julius is known for his tomahawk dunk over the Hoyas' 7'0" center Ruben Boumtje Boumtje.  He is looking forward to working with our young men and women athletes at all levels.

Coach Matthew Lobaugh:
Matt is currently the Director of Operations at Court Time Sports Center.  He is a native of Youngstown, Ohio and has been certified as a trainer from the National Basketball Academy. Matt graduated from Slippery Rock University where he received a Bachelors of Science degree in Sport Management.  During his collegiate basketball career, Matt earned Honorable Mention All American, All Conference honors and was named Player of the Year.  Matt has over six years of coaching experience at the High School and AAU levels.

Coach John Marion: 
John has acquired 10 years of collegiate coaching experience, five of them at the Division I level, and has also served as an NBA scout for the Memphis Grizzlies. He has been a 10 year “Station master” at the famous “Five Star” and “Hoop Group” camps and has developed numerous All-Americans and 1st Team All Conference Players throughout the years. John has had the privilege to train and coach several NBA and European Pros as well many current and former Division 1 players, including Kevin Durant, Ron Artest, Gilbert Brown and Ashton Gibbs. 

Coach Rich Griffin:
Rich Griffin is currently the Varsity Head Coach at Carlynton High School. Prior to this position he served three years as the Assistant Basketball Coach at Keystone Oaks High School. This is his second year coaching at CTS. Rich's AAU 8th grade team last year went 22-8 and won 5 tournaments. Rich has been coaching for 13 years at all levels and his teams are known for their intense defense, unique offenses and team oriented approach. Rich is looking forward to returning this year to compete in showcases and advanced competitive tournaments.

Coach Kenneth Johnson:
Kenneth Johnson is currently the Assistant Boy's Basketball Coach at Frazier Area High School, in addition to working as a perimeter performance specialist with young athletes. He began his collegiate career at Ferrum College, making second team all conference in 2005 and clenching the USA South Rookie of the Year title. He continued his career at California University of Pa, where he led his team to the NCAA Regional Championship title in 2008 then advancing to the NCAA Division II Elite 8. Johnson coached at the elementary, middle and high school levels.

Coach Damone James:
Damone was a four year starter and played and coached under John Beilein of the University of Michigan.  He has served as Head Coach at Turner Carroll High School in Buffalo, New York where he led them to two straight New York State Class B Championships.  Damone has served on the staff of the New Jersey Nets in their Basketball Operations.  His most notable former players include:  Julius Page (University of Pittsburgh), Ed Turner (University of Pittsburgh), Leonard Stokes (University of Cincinnati), Lauren Stokes (Hofstra), and Koran Barnes (Cornell).

Coach Dana Stewart:
Dana has over 15 years of playing experience, including 10 years with AAU basketball programs. She played four years at East Allegheny High School and attended Slippery Rock University where she played and was named captain of the team for her last two years. Dana graduated with a degree in Elementary/ Early Childhood education and receive a minor in Coaching.  She has also volunteered a great deal of her time assisting at a variety of basketball camps and skills clinics throughout the area.  This is her second year coaching AAU basketball.

Coach Ryan McDonald:
Ryan’s experience with coaching includes three seasons as assistant coach for the Men’s basketball team at Penn State New Kensington.  He has a degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Pittsburgh in 2008 and is a graduate of McKeesport Area High School, where he played varsity basketball and soccer. Ryan’s best experience in coaching comes from the opportunity that he has had being in the presence of great coaches who have taught the best examples of good conduct, competition, endurance, teamwork and sportsmanship. 

Coach Geno Bianco:
As a shooting guard, Geno played four years at Langley High School. He followed that up by attending Thiel College and playing for three years. During this time Geno played the small forward position and led the conference during the 05-06 season by shooting 46.3% from three point range. Following college, he furthered his love for the game by coaching at numerous camps at Slippery Rock University and Edinboro University. Currently, Geno has taken on the role of a Keystone State Basketball Camps Coach and has been a counselor since 2007.

Coach Joshua McCanna:
Josh is currently the Facility Manager here at Court Time Sports Center. He played his high school basketball at Riverside High School, where he was a 3 year letterman and record setter in both steals and three pointers. Upon graduation, he attended Waynesburg University where he played a year of collegiate basketball before transferring to SRU. While attending college, he had coached grade school teams for local youth organizations and has assisted in the personal basketball trainings of players in the Slippery Rock Area.  Josh has assisted in numerous skills camps and clinics and is currently a private trainer.   

​Coach Kirk Sanderson:
Kirk was a four year letterman in basketball and soccer in high school and then went on to play at the collegiate level. He has run numerous camps and clinics and is currently the Head Instructor for the Biddy programs here at Court Time.  He coached in our AAU program last year and is looking forward to returning for another season. 

Coach Loren Harris:
Loren played varsity basketball for Brentworth High School. She graduated a tri-athlete lettering in all three sports, basketball, softball and track. She went on to college where she coached boys grade school basketball in Punxutaney, PA.  Loren feel in love with the game of basketball at a very young age and looks forward to working with our program.

Coach Nick Heckathorn:
Nick began his athletic career at Kennedy Catholic High School in Hermitage, PA where he was a tri-athlete. He became a three time varsity letter winner in the sports of basketball and soccer, while he was also awarded for a single year letter winner in varsity football. Along with his letter honors, Nick was also awarded the Kennedy Catholic High School “Male Scholar Athlete of the Year 2006”.  Nick is currently a substitute teacher for public schools in the Pittsburgh area while coaching AAU in the spring and summer.

Coach Amy Johns:
Amy played basketball for McKeesport High School.  She graduated in 2006 and received a full basketball scholarship to Xavier University in Cincinnati, Oh.  Later she transferred to California University of Pa and graduated with a degree in Science and Technology and a minor in Business.  She is currently pursuing her masters in Sport Psychology.  During her tenure at Cal U, she scored over 1200 points and received honors for first team all conference in 2011 and 2012, first team all region in 2012, PSAC West player of the year in 2012, and nominated Daktronics All-American . 

Coach Kristen Stash:
Kristen is currently an Assistant Girl's Basketball Coach at Frazier Area High School.  Kristen was a 3 sport athlete in High School and attended California University of PA where she played soccer and received her Athletic Training degree.  She continued her education at Cal and IUP where she received her Exercise Science/Sport Psychology and Health and Physical Education Masters degrees.  Kristen is a Performance Enhancement Specialist and has worked various basketball camps and clinics. 

Coach Bernie Bernadowski:
Bernie was a three-sport graduate in High School.  He played both football and basketball while attending California University of PA.  His coaching experience extends over 35 years in both Ohio and PA.  Locally, he coached the Beth-Center High School boys and California High School girls basketball teams to two WPIAL playoff appearances each.  After retiring from teaching, he coached the Brownsville High School girls basketball team, who went undefeated twice in the scetion and advanced to two PIAA state playoffs.  Bernie was elected Coach of the Year twice.

ASSISTANT COACHES

Coach Sean Welsch: 
Sean has been coaching CYO for the Diocese of Pittsburgh for seven years. During that time, his teams have made the playoffs each and every year and have had several chances at the Diocesan Championship.  Most recently, Sean’s 2008 team finished as Runners-Up for the Diocesan Championship and went on to win the State Championship.  Last season Sean assisted the CTS AAU 8th grade boys competition at Nationals in Florida.  Sean is currently the Assistant Coach for Carlynton High School.

Coach Dave Andrews:
Dave is in his 12th year of coaching, starting out with the McKeesport Basketball League and with his most recent tenure as Head Coach of youth basketball at the White Oak AA.  Dave coached in the Edgewood management basketball league in Wash. DC. He has coached two different teams from Virginia - Youth and Intermediate division as the Head Coach. Dave looks forward to working with children in order to assist them in their quest to become better players.

Coach Rie Lauver:
Rie Lauver has been playing basketball since the fourth grade. She has played with various traveling teams and teams within the Homer-Center School District. Since graduation, Rie has continued playing in co-ed pick-up groups every summer. She has a great love for the sport and working with kids. This is Rie's second year as an assistant coach with AAU and she is looking forward to another exciting season.

Coach Jason Werkin:
Jason attended Woodland Hills High School where he was a three year letterman in basketball and baseball.  After graduation he attended Slippery Rock University and graduated with a degree in Sports Management.  Jason's coaching background has been with Woodland Hills High School where he has assisted the men's and women's varsity teams as well as working various school camps and clinics.

Coach Paul Palaschak:
Paul has coached basketball for a wide variety of age groups ranging from 4th grade through high school. He has coached Metro Area basketball since 1998, in which he headed up the 4th to 8th grade boys teams as well as the 4th to 6th grade girls. Paul also coached for the Blue Storm AAU team from 1999 though 2003. On a volunteer basis, he .has served as the Assistant Head Coach for the South Park Varsity team during the 2006-07 season.

Coach Joe Maguire:
Joe started his basketball career at  Avonworth High School.  He most recently was a student basketball assistant for Division 1, Robert Morris University.  He has worked numerous basketball camps in the Pittsburgh area including Five Star.  He is finishing his masters degree in instructional leadership and social studies at Robert Morris.  

Coach Jacob Lininger:
Jacob started playing basketball at a young age and after high school he began coaching several Bethel Park Recreational teams.  He has assisted with numerous summer basketball camps throughout the local area.  Jacob is excited to continue his coaching career here with the CTS/Just Play Program.

Coach Laura Grimm:
Laura is currently in her first year as the Head Junior Varsity Coach and Assistant Varsity Coach at Baldwin High School.  Prior to joining the staff at Baldwin, Laura spent the 2010-2011 season coaching at her alma mater, Serra Catholic. Before entering coachiing, she played collegiately at Division 1 Colgate University on a full scholarship.  Prior to Colgate, Laura played high school basketball for Serra, where she was a member of two WPIAL championship teams and the 2005 PIAA champions.
